The choices that we made as a family to take our own destiny in our hands and travel the world for over 8 years straight, started with the realisation that we had to take our children out of school. Everything changed once we came to appreciate that were ready to become responsible for their journey of learning. Taking on this responsibility and taking them out of school actually forced us to examine other ways in which we could support ourselves in how we lived. It was the very catalyst to our taking back our independence and freedom!
We soon discovered that that there was not one way of learning and that we had the freedom to learn together in ways that not only suited how our children wanted to learn and the topics they were interested in, but also in a way that suited our lifestyle as a family. We walked everyday for hours, along the coast, in the forests, along the nature trails and at every opportunity we were learning, about ourselves, about each other, about the enchanting world around us. We learned at our own rhythm, timing and we created learning experiences naturally from the conversations we had while we walked. Sometimes it was history, sometimes it was natural sciences, sometimes it was just learning about our own aspirations. Learning now became as natural as living. Making this choice, we discovered that we had many things to share with our children and with the world, knowledge, experience and wisdom that was valued and valuable to others.
It was these experiences that helped us to realise that we could live a different way. We created our own small business, we reduced our living expenses, we pooled together with family and suddenly we found we were able to live in a country that was super expensive to live in, without having to exchange 80 hours a week of our time and life.
We had also rescued our children from the brainwashing factory of the state, with their message that working for a living was the ONLY way that you could survive in our society. I emphasise working for a living, rather than creating a life and survive, because many of you already know all too well that this society has been carefully constructed, making you feel you have limited choice and that you must exchange your life for a set of socially acceptable compromises that were never intended for you to ever be able to thrive. Merely to be distracted into submission.
